CLOUD HOSTING

Sentrien is at the forefront of Cloud Computing, offering its customers access to all industry standard applications, hosted versions of their own homegrown systems, and traditional system maintenance activities via the Cloud.

Cloud hosting allows companies to have the best in hardware and software through a utility pricing model, so that they pay only for the resources needed. The affordability, power, and easy access of cloud computing is breaking down barriers for businesses of all sizes, enabling them to become highly flexible and ready to rapidly scale business operations to meet customer and market requirements.

Unlike other IT service providers, Sentrien works with its customers to create an end-to-end, cloud-based IT solution selecting standard applications, virtualizing legacy systems, supporting hybrid computing environments, and building long term migration plans.

Cloud FAQ

Have some questions about the cloud? You're not alone.

How easy is it for me to get on the Cloud?

This depends on two things:

  1. The amount of data and software you want to transfer, and
  2. The expertise and support approach of your vendor.

Sentrien prides itself on making this process both understandable and as painless as possible.

Can I put anything I want on the Cloud?

Yes and No.

No if you are purchasing multi-tenant software packages such as SalesForce or QuickBooks Online: only Salesforce goes on your Salesforce cloud environment, and only QuickBooks goes on your QuickBooks Online cloud environment.

Yes if you are purchasing a virtual server environment such as Sentrien’s SurePlan.

What does “multi-tenant” mean?

Software packages such as SalesForce put all their users on one “version” of their software and on the same server. These are pre-configured environments, so they can’t accommodate your many other programs; only Salesforce is going to reside on that server. An update to Salesforce is done all at once for all users. You would need a virtual server environment to store your other programs. The programs residing outside of Salesforce that need to “talk” to Salesforce would require an integration or interface.

What are the drawbacks to being on the Cloud?

The Cloud requires a steady and reasonably fast Internet connection. An area without internet capability cannot go on the cloud and an area with a very poor internet connection would certainly not be ideal. Some very specific applications may not be best for the cloud, but these are typically very computation intensive applications not found in a normal business environment (A program designed for gene matching research might be an example as it searches the database for hundreds of millions of long string match possibilities).

How does this change my expenditures for IT? Does it affect my accounting?

OPEX IN - Any and all IT expenditures are now monthly charges for your Cloud usage, much the same as your electric bill, and will be considered Operating Costs (OPEX). You pay for only the resources that you use, again similar to your electricity.

CAPEX OUT - Your days of purchasing hardware (Servers, disc drives, routers, switches, cabling) are over. You will no longer make Capital Expenditures (CAPEX) that depreciate over time.

SurePlan FAQ

We've put together a few of our most encountered questions and concerns below. Read on for more answers!

“I want to sign up, but I don’t like long term commitments.”

No worries. SurePlan is a month-to-month service offering, so there are no long term contracts to sign.

“I just bought my server 3 years ago, why should I replace my hardware with SurePlan?”

SurePlan is a customized Infrastructure-As-A-Service offering. With SurePlan, your server is never out-of-date. Sentrien constantly upgrades its Data Center equipment so that your organization is always running on the newest platform. Additionally, unlike “store-bought” hardware, SurePlan’s configuration can be changed as often as necessary. Need more RAM for a seasonal marketing campaign? No problem. With SurePlan you simply call us with the necessary changes and your configuration will be modified to suit your needs. Whether you need to add processor power or reduce your hard-disk space, a simple phone call will have you using only what you need, when you need it.

“I want to eliminate our in house server, but I'm concerned that users won’t know how to connect.”

SurePlan servers are as easy to operate as your local desktop applications. Whether you are on a Mac or Windows workstation, you can access your Virtual SurePlan Server using Microsoft’s Remote Desktop or similar application. Once connected to your SurePlan Server, you will have access to all your shared applications, data, and printer resources, and can use them as you would any other desktop application.

“How responsive is a Virtual Server? I’ve heard people say that it does not run as fast as their local desktop.”

Each Virtual environment is unique to a user’s experience. We’ve seen Virtual PCs that actually run faster than a local environment simply because the equipment used locally is not as new or upgraded to the same specs as our Virtual Servers. However, responsiveness has more to do with their local Internet Service Provider (ISP), including the age of their router and the bandwidth that is available to them. Over the last several years and with the advent of “fast” internet, Virtual PCs have now become just as responsive as local desktops. Sentrien can help you determine whether a simple upgrade to your bandwidth is all that is required to see faster response times. And, best of all, upgrading your ISP infrastructure means that your internet experience will improve - regardless of whether you are accessing our SurePlan Server or simply surfing the web from your local desktop.

“We have more than one Cloud Software application and need to share data from one system to another. Can you tie multiple Cloud systems together so I don't have to re-key data?”

Sentrien specializes in data integration services. Whether you have a local software database or multiple cloud applications, we can arrange to share data across multiple systems - saving you time from double entry, while also ensuring the accuracy of your shared data.

“I used Remote Desktop in the past and got confused between applications on my local PC and those on my virtual server. I just want to see one desktop.”

Virtual Servers typically operate via a Terminal Server environment. That means that you have both a local desktop and a Virtual desktop. However, Application Sharing is now able to blend these two desktops into one. If you use Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 as your local desktop and prefer to only see your virtual applications as local icons on your local desktop, just let us know. At Sentrien we strive to provide you with the experience that best suits your work environment and would be pleased to customize your specific desktop experience for you.

“I need Accounting Assistance. I tried a hosting solution before, but the staff could not address my questions so I cancelled. How will you help me get up and running if I need to make changes to my system?”

Our cloud consultants are knowledgeable in both IT infrastructure as well as accounting topics. So whether you need to migrate to support your accounting department’s cloud initiative, or simply want to know what the optimum choices are to manage your cloud infrastructure, we're here to help.

“What do I have to do to get started?”

Most configurations are designed for an organization’s specific need. For example, are you replacing your corporate server entirely, or do you just want to share one application over the web? Fill out the contact form by clicking the yellow button at the bottom of this page, and our friendly staff will arrange a call to determine exactly what you need and how you plan to use the system. From there, we will provision our servers to match your specific needs.
